Thread Name: RIP John Lennon (9 Oct 1940 - 8 Dec 1980)
Subject: RE: RIP John Lennon
Hi kind....weez. I am still going through that way of thinking. I quite like the definition of morality which has gained some concensus on Mudcat. Basically, it is a sense of responsibility for the effect of your actions on others. I do not think it is just about "right and wrong". We can decide for ourselves what is right and what is wrong, but we can't always do that for others. You have effectively raised the issue that we can face complex moral dilemmas and there is not always an easy test of what is the right decision.
People without any moral compass are frightening, because they are essentially selfish. People who think their moral choices should apply to everyone are essentially tyrants. They are quite frightening too. I don't know the answers, but I am asking the questions - and listening!
