Thread Name: songs about building boats/ships?
Subject: RE: songs about building boats/ships?
Hmmm, the closest I can come is one about cutting the wood that was used to build ships. "Mauling Live Oak" is on The Boarding Party's second album, "Fair Winds and a Following Sea," (Folk-Legacy FSI-109 or C-109), and is about how miserable it was for lumbermen from Maine to go down to the swamps of the South to cut, or "maul" the live oak trees which made the best wood for shipbuilding. The song doesn't get into the actual building of the ships, so might not do for your purposes, but it's kind of a fun song. Alas, I do not find it on the Folk-Legacy web site at this point, but I'll bet if you called F-L, they'd be able to send you a cassette or make you a "custom CD" of it. It's a good album -- lots of great sea songs.

Cheers,
Nancy
