Back in the early 1960s, a local Aussie country town radio station played this song - can;t remember what version - but it seemed to be about pests (folk singers? - no!) like some insects - seem to remember songs like 'purple people eater' etc at that time, The station played lots of 'top 40' stuff, that today might be called 'easy listening' with a fair amount of 'country music' as it then existed , especially Aussie artists like Slim Dusty.
