It reminded me of a story current in my youth (!)about a small boy who also liked to watch the workmen on a building site who adopted him. One day he came home early and his mother was afraid he'd been a nuisance and had been sent away. "Why are you home early, son?" she asked. "The delivery lorry didn't come, so we'm buggered for bricks" was the reply. He wasn't allowed to go again!
