Ahh...Brother Can you Spare a Dime....

I snuck that on a christmas mix tape I sent to my rabid Republican mother (american Republican mind you..my Father is one of the OTHER republicans..an irish one)

I led up to it with the Willie Nelson tune "Pretty paper" and then batted the ball and hopefully my message, out of the park with Brother Can You spare A Dime..one of the Weavers' performances. The rest of the tape started out innocently enough and started to slide towards socially responsible songs as it went on.

She had been earlier going on and on about how Out-of-work people were just lazy and those calling for healthcare reform were communists. I inlcuded in the tape, a copy of my monthly health insurance bill (about ($985). My husband was recently rehired without his union status and lost all his benefits..well...

I think it drve her back to her conscience... she buried us in gifts this week which was NOT my intent. I was just trying to remind her not everyone has what she has. Since I would have been wasting my breath talking to her, I let music make my argument.

That's a song that doesn't get sung enough nowadays.
