Thread Name: battery powered sound for smallpipes?
Subject: RE: battery powered sound for smallpipes?
I've seen a Pignose strapped round a melodeon player in a procession. It was on his back, particularly useful to project sound behind him to the dancers he was playing for.
I should think that would do well enough for the smallpipes too. How you mic the pipes is interesting though; the best place for a mic when recording is somewhere roughly equidistant from the holes on the chanter. Maybe the end of the chanter would be good enough for your purpose though. If you want to amplify the drone too you'll need a mic right on the end of it. More than 1 drone? um... just do the bass one, I should think. A pair of Microvox swan neck mics should do the job, and either battery box will take the two inputs and mix them.
