If you right click on your desktop in an area where there isn't any link, Windows will give you a dialog box. Choose "refresh" and this will clear up and leftover clutter. No one has ever suggested that Windows is perfect, and it sounds like there is something that is passing over that part of the monitor that won't clear by itself. I notice the inability to clear off old information when I use FrontPage in the html view, and there are icons on my desktop that have problems (the Norton Firewall thingie that pops out from the right hand side sometimes leaves a line behind when it has opened to tell me it has instituted some "new rule.")

Right click. Refresh. That should do it.
