Subject: RE: BS: The 1960s was crap.
Capitalist puppetmasters learned a valuable lesson from the sixties: the best way to quell an impending revolution is to market it. Take its peace symbols and love beads and loud music with its antagonistic lyrics and flower power slogans and bell bottomed, tie-dyed fashions and mass produce them for mass consumption. It takes the wind right out of their revolutionary sails, and fills the air with the ka-ching sound of corporate sales. "Let the cash registers ring."

And it still works today, too. Anytime one of the hippie idealogies from that era is ressurrected from the grave and looks to make some sort of comeback, someone is there - often a reformed hippie - to proffer a way to make a buck off it.
