Petr,

I return to this thread to see what people say, because the experience you have had--that of becoming a new father--is maybe the most profoundly moving and 'shocking' realizations people ever have, IMO.

I cut the cord for my eldest, and (mostly) delivered my youngest (--yes, my wife did all the work). I think part of it all is seeing that you have a new life to help, feed, care for, educate, guide, etc., and the other part is that you'll likely be making some changes in your own life to accommodate the little one.

One little tip: if Ruth is not in diapers, don't hold her above your head and get her giggling and excited. I did that once and kids have real difficulty holding their bladders. I recall the day my youngest came out of the washroom, the floor of which was covered with liquid. She announced in a clear and confident voice: "I can pee standing up."

Keep a photo album and absolutely everything that Ruth creates. If she gets a favourite toy, buy a second one and put it aside. There will be tears like you have never seen when her bear or doll goes missing. You'd better be prepared to jump in quickly with Winnie the Second.

I am really happy for you and your missus.

Bruce
