The CCC experience involved a lot of hard work, and little pay -- but compared to the alternatives available to those who signed up it wasn't that bad! I've talked to quite a few men who were in CCC camps and almost without exception they felt greatful to have had the CCC available to them and, all things considered, a positive experience. They did some fantastic work on (among other things) roads, bridges and buildings in the National Parks and Monuments that are still being used. For some reason, I never had come across that song.
