Oh, oh. The Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto #3. Yes, I first heard it in the movie "Shine," but I bought a CD and have nearly worn it smooth listening to it as loud as is safe to do so.Neil... I'm thinking.
I haven't seen Ani DiFranco in concert, but do love her songwriting. My daughter made a wonderful mix tape after my engagement ended last winter, full of sass and fury. This was my introduction to Ani (Untouchable Smile, I think) and I continue to find her surprising and moving. I don't think anything I've heard, however, reaches the level of intensity Neil's talking about with Janis. She was awesome. I've always wondered if you can only get to that state by making yourself somewhat crazy, either chemically crazy or through religious trance or something.
