Thread Name: Your Shaker Collection
Subject: RE: Your Shaker Collection
My friend and I have made an extensive search into many of the Shaker hynmals, magazines, private letters, hand written books etc that are, at present, in a cardboard box in the library of a museum in England. It is a private collection and not for general release. I have contacted the remaining Shakers in US and have their blessing to spend time going through them and eventually to get them into the public domain. We sing some of them out at sessions already and have an idea that, in the near future, want to put together a group of people who will sing them out - probably about 8 good harmony singers. We have also seen the dance patterns that go with them. Obviously, this is going to take a while as we both work and need to travel to get to the private collection, meanwhile... watch out at any festival we are at and if we are singing something you've never heard before, it's probably shaker. And, because I couldn't afford a genuine one shipped from the US, I have had a huge Shaker style refectory table and 8 chairs made to go in my new (very old) house. There is also an excellent book on Shaker influences on gardening too.
