No real connection between Shakers and Quakers--the Shakers' propensity for dance prompted the nickname "Shaking Quakers", hence Shakers.

They were a celibate community with strict gender equality, making the hackneyed phrase "separate but equal" a meaningful one. They raised orphans and abandoned children (who could not join the sect until adulthood.) Their motto: Hands to work and hearts to God.

Incidentally, Shakers developed evaporated milk, and introduced a lot of then-unheard-of ideas to the world: prepackaged seeds, the modern flat broom and a bunch of others I can't think of at the moment.
