On my grocery's shelves, I found an English curry powder, Sharwood's, labeled "Hot," with the royal seal and "By appointment to H. M. the Queen." The Queen must be a wimp.
Tried it in lamb curry I made yesterday and had to keep adding in order to bring the curry up to tingle level. Finally added some pure hot chili powder. I have to go back to mixing my own from the 'makins' at an Indian store (It should be hot, but not to the point of covering up the taste of the curry ingredients, and not so mild that one might as well open a can of Campbell's lamb (mutton) and rice).
