The program "Disk Utility" in the OSX Applications==>Utilities folder will do a lot of good; you may need to start up from a CD or a second HD to run it on your primary drive. Run First Aid and Repair Permissions and it will do some good. I am not sure how much, but it is good hygeine in any case.
