Caitrin-- I remember my friends being shocked and utterly disbelieving to hear that the Beatles' "Til There Was You" was actually an older song. Many of us didn't believe there was any real music written before 1960 either. It's one of the characteristics of youth.

Although actually I think it's one of the characteristics of people. We all get awfully provincial awfully fast and think that our decade/village/tribe/generation/country is really the *only* of those that exists, or at least matters.
