It seems unfortunate that at a time when so many people in Cumbria, especially Carlisle, where three people died in the up to 9 foot floods...Prince Harry and his uniform stole the press! O.K so he is a silly boy who made a mistake and the Tsunami was also very much in peoples minds and still is.
I have just returned from four days of giving out aid to people in Carlisle...people who through not being able to afford insurance ..have lost everything they owned due to the flooding.
I urge you all...if you see a fund which is raising money for Carlisle, please give generously as so many people have lost so much.
I have never in my life seen streets devoid of cars as they have all had to be scrapped! I have never before seen streets lined with skips which are piled high with peoples belongings and that means all their belongings ( Furnirure, tools, photos, TVs Fridges, washing machines, carpets etc etc )as it is contaminated and touching any of it could cause disease/epidemic. As I said the water in places was over 9ft deep and cars were submerged...housed swallowed up to their ceilings. I have had tears in my eyes, listening to the stories of suffering..
