Thread Name: BS: Challenge to the weiners
Subject: RE: BS: Challenge to the weiners
During recovery from radiation of the throat, weiners (surprisingly enough) were one of the first food items I could easily digest while my saliva glands were still temporarily out of order. Plenty juicy enough on their own, and soft enough to easily squeeze down my constricted throat.

No hot dog buns, though ~ bread of any kind is still pretty difficult to handle even now, when I'm further along the road back to normalcy. Nothing we eat seems to require more saliva than baked goods ~ something I *never* thought about until it became a personal issue.

I'm not a vegetarian by choice, but I went 6-8 months without eating any meat while I was unable to swallow anything and took all my nourishment via a tube straight into my belly. So I was glad to dig into some all-beef weenies as soon as I was able.

I put an inch or so of water into a skillet and boil 2 or 3 dogs for a few minutes, then pour off the water, add a little pat of butter, and sear 'em till the skin darkens up a bit. Crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside ~ yesss!. For now, I eat 'em off a plate with mustard; can't wait 'til I can put 'em in buns and pile on the sauerkraut and pickle relish! (I've never been crazy about cheese and/or chili on my hot dogs but, hey, that's just me.)
