Britain gave the world John Milton, William Shakespeare, Newtonian Physics and Common Law. We also gave it The East India Company, commercialised slavery, Sweeney Todd and Jack the Ripper. What about Germany? Gave the world Brecht, Schiller, Goethe, Einstein, Bach, Beethoven and Heinrich Heine. It also gave the world Kaiser Wilhelm II, Zyklon B gas and Adolf Hitler. I can't think of another country which has not produced good and bad on an equal scale. There is no reason to despise English because Jack the Ripper spoke it. It is also no reason to decry the German language because a neurotic little jerk like Hitler did.
