Subject: RE: Are hymns also folk music hmmmmm?
Many hymns were set to traditional tunes.

Example: To be a Pilgrim tune 'Monksgate' is named after the place where it was collected, in Sussex, I think, as the tune to 'Our Captain cried all hands' (to be found in Bodley as 'The distressed maid')
