Subject: RE: BS: The most obnoxious famous I've met
I think, so far as folk performers are concerned a list of people who come across as pretty good to meet would be a lot longer.

I can only think of one bunch of well-regarded folk performers who really stuck me as nasty, when I saw the way they treated a less sucessful band they were sharing a gig with. That sharp-elbowed, on-the-make impression you sometimes get. But I won't mention their name, because it was years ago, and perhaps it was a one-off, and they were on the early rungs of the ladder and so forth...

However I do know, it's still left a nasty taste in my mouth after all these years, and I've never bought a record of the people concerned, and if they're on at the same time as some other people, I tend to go to listen to the other people.

There's the Auden quote, which seems to sum up this kind of thing -

Private faces in public places
Are wiser and nicer
Than public faces in private places
