I cannot resist posting this story since Bill D mentioned Messerschmidt.

After WW2 a U S Army Air Force ace was giving a talk to a ladies garden group---and he said---"there were Fuckers to the right of me--there were Fuckers to the left of me"--at that point the chair lady interrupted to tell the assembled group that he is referring to the Folker--a German plane. He said--" Hell no lady---those Fuckers were Messerschidts".
