Subject: RE: BS: Your LEAST Favorite Car Ever...
This one's easy! I got a brand new (Lemon) Yellow 1973 Ford Pinto station wagon which was purchased in Florida. I got in to drive back to Michigan and it quit on me in Riceville Tennessee where I75 wasn't built yet. I had to stay overnight there and finally got it to the dealership in Ashville. But before that I had one of the TWO worst experiences in my life that night in Riceville Tennessee. And you don't want to meet up with me in a dark alley if you are a hillbilly mechanic that doesn't know that a jumped timing belt can stop a brand new car, but a 23 year old chic on her own in the middle of the night is an easy target...But the next experience was not one of the TWO worst...

The pinto's electrical system never worked right and one night it broke down in a blinding snowstorm while my musician boyfriend at the time and I were driving home from Lansing Michigan at 3am after his gig. We were stranded in two feet of snow on the x-pressway and would have frozen to death had we not been able to flag down a bus that was being delivered to southern Michigan. I hated that vehicle and finally got up the courage to trade it in 1976 when it broke down for good. I bought a Datsun honey bee that served me well for several years after that.

I think the vehicle was put together in July on a Monday (when the workers were in contract negotiations....It took me until 1999 to trust Ford again.

This pinto is a very bad memory...
