In 1964 I moved to Long Island & had to learn to drive. My boss sold me a decrepit Oldsmobile for $50 to learn on. I called it the Baboon because of its pink rear. Soon the head gaskets started leaking, so badly that when the light turned green I enveloped the car behind me in a cloud of steam (discouraged tailgating). I could just barely make it to work before the radiator boiled; I carried a bicycle in the back seat as a life raft. When I got my license I turned the Baboon in for a new Dodge Dart, which I annoyed the dealer by paying for all at once. Of course, I called it the Fodge.
