I would suggest that with the right speed and type of bit drilling into the hard-shell can be done neatly and without harm. Talk to a luthier in your area for confirmation, but there's no reason a small hole should compromise it structurally. Be careful not to put a bolt or not where it will scratch the guitar, though!!
