Thespionage - apparently old Earl never picked up the "hat trick" from cowboy singers.

As they lift the stap toward the hat, supporting it with the thumb, they grasp the hat between the thumb and forefinger, slide the hat backwards off the head, drop the strap on their back, and then bring the hat back up on their head, all in one smooth motion. Its a neat trick.
