Thread Name: Lyr Add: Help for the Needy (Thomas Dorsey)
Subject: Lyr Add: HELP FOR THE NEEDY (from Fairfield Four)
A Guest requested the full lyrics to this song in the Have I Given Anything Today thread in the BS section. I thought I'd put them up here, too..
This is the song as recorded by the Fairfield Four
HELP FOR THE NEEDY
Have I given anything today? Have I helped some needy soul on my way? Just to know I've done my best Let me go home to take my rest Then my name, my name, my name be written there today
CHORUS: Today (oh, today), today (oh, today) Have I helped some needy soul on my way? Just to know I've done my best Let me go home to take my rest Then my name, my name, my name be written there today
Have I given anything today? Have I helped some needy soul on my way? From the storm to the sun Have I wounded anyone? To weep a weep a weep or worry Lord, today
The tenor sings the first verse, and the bass the second, and they alternate repeating the same verse as the spirit moves them. Harmonies are doo-doots, except for the (oh, today) responses on the chorus.
You gotta hear it to fully appreciate it... it's done a capella. The Gospel Messengers do it pretty much the same as the Fairfield Four. With a lot of eneregy.
