Though I'd never heard the term "dippy egg" before, I've certainly engaged in the practice.
However, I would not use either boiled or fried eggs for this. I would use poached (2-1/2 minutes) or coddled eggs. I much prefer the poached.
I generally sprinkle some grated Parmesan on the poached egg before eating. Wonderful!
