Subject: Jane Siberry's Hush
I love traditional music and I quite like Jane Siberry - That's why I was a bit sceptical about this album which brings the two of them together. And I wasn't too keen on yet another pop version of The Water is Wide.
But despite layered vocals, ethereal feel and piano she manages to avoid Enya-terrain. All in all I was surprised that she actually brings something new to these songs (at least for me).
Admittedly, the layered vocal style can be a bit much so that a song like Pontchartrain which has her singing the verses with just one voice (the layered vocals are all her own) is a bit of a revelation. Because undeniably she does have a beautiful voice.
Anyway before I'm starting to bore you - does anybody know the album? I'd like to hear some (expert ;-)) opinions. How do you like her approach to these songs?
