My wife likes to eat poke well enough, but doesn't like to see it growing in the front yard. I'll let it grow anywhere it wants.

As for old poke being toxic, I don't know. I've eaten quite a bit of big poke; when it gets a couple of feet high. Also took small leaves off a BIG plant. Asked an agronomist sort one time but didn't get a definite answer.
