I learned a 'stock' version of 'Shenandoah' at school. In my late teens I heard a radio programme which included a partially different lyric. I recall these lines (or something like them):
Missourie she's a mighty water, And away you rolling river, The Yankees march along her border And away I'm bound to go, Cross the wide Missouri.
Oh Shenandoah, I love your daughter, And away you rolling river, Seven years ago I came to court her But away I'm bound to go, Cross the wide Missouri.
A few years now, the war'll be over, And away you rolling river, Then I'll come back to take my lover, But away I'm bound to go, Cross the wide Missouri.
