Thread Name: Lyr Req: Gold (John Stewart)
Subject: RE: Non folk - turning money into gold
Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham (I believe) in the background. The song is called "Gold" and is written and performed by Jon Stewart, from a 70's album with the intriguing title, "Bombs Away, Dream Babies". Jon was one of the original members of the Kingston Trio. Jon's written a lot of very fine songs; it's well worth catching up with his other stuff. Probably his best known song was one that was recorded by the Monkees - "Daydream Believer".
Sorry I don't have the complete lyrics for "gold" but here's what I have:

Gold

When the lights go down in the California town
and people are in for the evenin'
I jump into my car and I throw in my guitar
my heart beatin' time with my breathin'
Drivin' over Canaan singing to my soul
there's people out there turning music into gold
Drivin' over Canaan singing to my soul
there's people out there turning music into gold

Now my buddy Ken Bass, he's a-workin' pumpin' gas
and he makes two-fif' for an hour
He's got rhythm in his hands and he's tappin' on the cans;
sings rock 'n' roll in the shower
Drivin' over Canaan singing to my soul
there's people out there turning music into gold
Drivin' over Canaan singing to my soul
there's people out there turning music into gold
