Oh, it really happened to Hugh Glass. And Jim Bridger was something like 14 at the time, a newbie to the mountains. What he did, abandoning Glass, haunted him for all of his life.
But I really, really think that it would make one helluva "survivor" type television show. We take someone out into a wilderness area, have a griz maul 'em, break a leg, and then leave 'em (except for the camera crew, etc.). If they make it to the "fort" -- I think it was something like a 200 mile crawl -- we'll give a prize. It's have danger, blood, guts, and since the person would be naked, sex. Should appeal to the same crowd that loved the gladiatorial fights....
