It's 1984, and communities located around the dwindling coal industry are struggling to come to terms with pit closures.

The story centres on two sisters, Michelle and Linda, and their husbands, Gary and Paul. Gary, a striking miner, feels let down by his brother-in-law Paul, a local policeman. Then Michelle finds herself wanting to get more involved in the miners' struggle.
