Thanks guest for the info but I'm only too aware of the amazingly good conditions elsewhere in the profession and unfortunately I'm tied to the UK and to my current job. I have a degree in Biochemistry and a Masters in Information Science and have Chartered status as a Librarian/Information Scientist and have worked in the industry for far too many years!. My colleagues and I are trying to find out the contractual status for qualified school librarians in European Countries outside the UK so we can make a comparison with some hard hitting facts and show that more than one type of academic professional exists in British schools.
