"Well, I'll tell ya. It happened in 1932. In New York City, not long after I got off the boat from Africa. She was short, bowlegged, and hairy. A real looker. She had big, pouty lips, and could hoot like a howler monkey. But she was all Chimpanzee. Her name was Zelda. I met her at a Coney Island hotdog stand. We went for a walk along the seaside, under the boardwalk, and we found a discreet place in the shadows. The moon was real bright in the sky and you could hear the ferris wheels and painted pony rides off in the distance. It was amazing. I ain't seen Zelda in many years, but I ain't never gonna forget. Now you know. I don't talk about this stuff much, but I just hadda say it for some reason. Those were unforgettable times, even with all the prejudice. You hadda see New York in those days to believe it.
