You need to expound more.. i.e. what the "Carthiginnian" is/was.. Like all good songs from the "trenches", they nick a well known tune.. it's a tradition that has quite a history.. in fact John Gay "stole" all the melodies he used in his Beggar's Opera
A particular favourite of mine is the "D-Day Dodgers", penned to the melody of " Lilly of Laguna", which in turn was "converted" from an earlier song.. it's all good stuff..
And Susan.. thanks for lifting off the veil.. do you feel better for it?... and I agree re the futility of war " When will they ever learn".. I sometimes wonder about the number of songs/tunes written about the glory and anti-glory of war.. not so many are penned about the complete arseholes that are known as politicians who cause them in the first place..
Perhaps I'm just a sceptic at heart
