When you have a huge square with only a few people, you shoot close-ups. When you have many people, you shoot both long shots AND close-ups.

Kind of the same as when you're making a Hollywood movie...

Let's put it this way. When a corporate-owned media wants to report with a particular political slant, then they will simply do whatever they can to report events in such a way as will support that slant. They will emphasize certain things and downplay others. This is why Al-Jazeera focuses on one aspect of a situation and CNN focuses on a different aspect of that situation. The truth usually lies somewhere in between the extremes of opinion.
