Sonnet 17/03/04                     DCCCXCII

How might muse give dreams reason to recall
What joy lies in a touch? How can hopes tell
Of my desire, when my words seem to fall
On snow? Will dreams alone make my heart well?

I wish her happiness, but is there chance
That I might share moonlight, and smile? I try
To have mind control heart, but soft romance
Is stronger than resolve, when passions cry.

I look at pictures of my muse, and dream
How sweet her lips may be, and just how soft
Those shoulders are to touch. Yet, do eyes gleam
For me or verse? Will hope hold me aloft?

Shall I admit how much I want concern,
When I've no hope that she will to me turn?
