My problem is that the calves of my legs don't fit into my cowboy boots anymore (Acmes with 1-1/2 inch walking heel, circa 1962 -- black with white and gold starburst fore and aft.)

Underslung riding heels were about 2 inches, underslung walking heels 1-1/2 inches, most dogger heels were 1-1/2 inches.

Sometime in the mid-'70s I took the boots in to Eli the Cobbler to be re-soled. He ran his hands lovingly down the boots and crooned, "Oh, old Acmes . . ."
