Thread Name: Cyclone Ingrid and Darwin,N.T. of OZ
Subject: RE: Cyclone Ingrid and Darwin,N.T. of OZ
Ingrid caused considerable property and environmental damage to island and coastal communities north and east of Darwin, particularly Croker Island and parts of the Tiwi Islands, but fortunately there were no injuries nor loss of life. Darwin was very fortunate indeed to experience only minor squalls with the eye of the cyclone never coming closer than 100+ km. Ingrid is presently in the Timor sea and on a south-westerly track towards the remote northern coast of Western Australia. She had decreased to a Category 3 cyclone last night, but is intensifying again as she is over water - presently a category 4 (260 km/h) and intensifying. She is 270 km NE of the Western Austalian coast and moving towards it at 10 km/h. Hopefully, the small, isolated communities will suffer minimal damage if, as expected, she crosses the WA coast in the Mitchell Plateau area.

Thanks for the expressions of concern.
