Thread Name: Lyr Add: Where Shall I Be? (Spiritual)
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: WHERE SHALL I BE? (SPIRITUAL)
I remember this song from my African American church [Union Baptist Temple, Atlantic City, New Jersey from the 1950s-mid 1960s
[and probably afterwards as well but by then I had moved out of town and only came back for visits]

We sung these verses from the Carter version with a very uptempo beat"

WHERE SHALL I BE

When judgement day is drawing nigh.
Where shall I be.
When God the work of men shall try.
Where shall I be.

When east and west the fire shall roll.
Where shall I be.
when God shall judge every soul **
Where shall I be.

Chorus
Where shall I be
When the first trumpet sounds.
[Oh-o-o} where shall I be
When it sounds so loud.
When it sounds so loud as to WAKE UP the dead.
where shall I be when it sounds.

* I'm positive that we didn't sing "How will it be with my poor
soul". {We wouldn't have wanted to be reminded that we were poor}
I seem to recall the line being as I wrote it above, but this could
be mishearing and/or mis-remembering.The word "judge would have to
be divided into two syllables to make it fit the pattern: "jud-uge"
I don't remember singing the other verses given above at all.
