Thread Name: How was your St. Patrick's gig?
Subject: RE: How was your St. Patrick's gig?
Well, I was attending a private party in Nottingham (UK), hosted by the local Irish language Study Group.
One of the other guests was Séan Ó Sé. Séan was involved with Séan Ó Riada (who was one of those responsible for the formation of The Chieftains etc), and I have a video of him singing with them at a Dublin venue in the 1960s.
He's now 69 and touring Britain at the moment. When he sang last night in the kitchen of the house, the hairs on the back of your neck stood up - the guy sings traditional songs in Irich and English, and if anything, his voice is stronger than ever!
I played a bit of whistle with his accordionist and a couple of others, there was dancing and a great night. Most folks there said it was the most remarkable St Pat's night they'd ever had.
Still floating today...!
