I agree that it's a fine thang to give new singers an opoportunity. However, there is a vast difference between casting the role of Janis in a play or movie and a TV Star Search reality show based on finding the "next" Janis Joplin. People might feel that Jamie Foxx did a good job of playing Ray, but nobody would call him "the next Ray Charles"--even if he had sung the material.
