3 or 4 million copies of MSIE 4.(Microsofts new browser) have been down loaded since Oct.1...and lots of people (including Max)are saying that the very way it operates, (including a lot of 'push' technology sending you stuff you may not have asked for), is slowing everything down!

I found this review on another site...so beware...

MSIE 4.0 - The Web Browser from Hell

If you're curretnly using Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0.2 and are considering "upgrading" to Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 ------ don't !!! I made the mistake of doing that and discovered that MSIE 4.0 is truly the web browser from hell.

It has so many irritating and useless bells and whistles and fruit salad on it that it is virtually unusable for what I consider to be the main function of web browser, namely, taking you from one web page to another. Let me count the ways in which it is inferior to all prior versions of MSIE:

It installs its own "desktop" filled with advertising and screws up your real desktop and makes it unreadable.

It screws up your "favorite" bookmark listing, replacing the former easily accessible long list with a tiny window through which you must constantly scroll down your list. And the scrolling function is s-l-o-o-w-w-w-e-r than molasses in January. Just going to a simple bookmark now takes eons of time.

It prevents you from sizing your screen page in the "intermediate" size; the only two choices are "minimized" and "full screen." And in "full screen" mode it covers up your taskbar, so in order to switch to another program you first have to minimize the MSIE screen in order to read your taskbar.

The "font size" funciton is gone, which lets you make screen print larger. Or if it's still there, it's hidden somewhere in one of the many subsidiary pages you have to go to in order to perform the simplest of operating functions.

Many of its functions are now set in the fucking frames format, meaning that when you call up certain stuff you can't bookmark it or print out a hard copy of it.

The old simple multi-function toolbar is gone, and instead you have to go to a new page to do perform most functions, and each of those pages are loaded with banners and graphics that take forever to open.

It's loaded with mandatory links to all kinds of crappy sites (weather, stock quotations, etc., and yes, even links to AOL) which apparently have entered into marketing arrangements with Microsoft.

All in all, it's confusing as hell, complicated as hell, and worst of all it is much S-L-O-W-E-R than all previous versions of MSIE.

After four hours in MSIE 4.0 hell, I wound up paying $15 to Microsoft to phone them (technical support is $15 per "incident") to learn how to UNLOAD it so I could get back to my trusty, reliable MSIE 3.0.2.

If you're considering downloading MSIE 4.0, I can only say one thing. DON'T!

If, on the other hand, you feel in the mood to give yourself ulcers, high blood pressure, and gray hairs, then MSIE 4.0 is just the thing for you.
