I think he is, for all his cockiness, up against some pretty cynical people. He seems to be astute enough to realise he is being used - and lets not be unrealistic - he was in there for his own publicity. But you can't fault him for his conviction and for all his bravure - a little gravitas is creeping.

Folk hero for sure.
