Anyhow, didn't mean to mislead you, I can't claim authorship of the "darlin-Harlan" rhyme. I don't remember where I heard it, but I think the McGarrigles might have been picking up on same version in "Going Back to Harlan." I visited Harlan last year, partly out of musical curiosity (sourcepoint of inspiration for Which Side Are You On, Nine-pound Hammer, Going Back to Harlan) but spent most of my time admiring Mary Rockwell Hook's architecture and the herb collection at Pine Mountain Settlement School. I'd go back, even if it meant a taste of "the other other white meat: possum."
