Sonnet 07/05/04                                  CMXI

I would my muse surround with love, and fill
Her nights with warmth and caring. Should I give
What she might ask, or let my own dreams live
And offer soul to one who holds heart still?
Yet, can I think I might oppose her will,
To take more than she wants? I cannot steal
What is not mine, though my desires might feel
The thought. Her smile gives hope that might past kill.
I see in her far more than smiles, but know
I should of dreams make light: I have no right
To form a future without her consent.
Yet, can I think of her, and not hopes grow
That I might touch her heart? Can dreams invite
A vision that would of concerns repent?
