Open D minor is a great place, Alan! There is lots of room for creativity there. Is it D-A-D-F-A-D or some other configuration? Alternate tunings are a great way to "stretch" one's abilities. But, from what I gather, it's all been a stretch for you for a year now, with the finger injury. You have my admiration for not having given up, but instead have kept working on it!
