Sonnet 22/07/04                        CMXXIII

I dream, but know dream is not truly real,
That I find my heart's goal. I may desire
This beautiful muse to more than inspire,
But she is more than vision: I'll not steal
What I hope she might give. How can I feel
Other than thus? She is the one I see
When all is dark: Can I not dream to be
Within touch of her lips, to passions seal?
But I know I cannot hold her apart
From world, and reason. Dream does not give cause
To be more of a fool: I dare not seek
To offer more than dreams, and soul, and heart.
She is my muse, but all of my dreams pause,
And wait, with hope I might hear her heart speak.
